Recently a huge skip was found in Kazooie which is a HUGE time save. The Banjo games are also quite popular with Banjo-Kazooie making multiple AGDQ appearances in the last few years and Tooie making its first this year. There are people great at finding tricks (speedrunner R&D basically) and people who are great at executing and they all collaborate for the common good and the lower times. This is how speedrunning works basically. New world records naturally followed as they always do. They found a new wrong warp in Bramble Scramble that lets you complete the level in around 20 seconds. I think the latest development in that scene is actually quite interesting. Hitbox, by the way, is a Twitch Alternative that's taking off in light of Twitch's new draconian policies.
Donkey kong country returns speedrun plus#
I can only wonder what skips have been made to reduce the time by 10 plus minutes. I haven't watched it yet so I can hardly vouch for it but I'm pretty interested in it. You can check out the VOD on Hitbox if you like. Now 7 months later the run is down to sub 30 for the first time in history. Earlier this year during the AGDQ marathon the time the runners put in was roughly 45 minutes a piece. Usually they just assume everyone is up to speed most of the time because they do it every day. Protip: Speedruns are most friendly to newcomers during marathons since the runners make sure to explain things during them. There are currently like 10 people running it if I recall right. As he says in the video it's a relatively new scene but it's a good one.

He's currently practicing/routing a new 100% run of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Note: Category is really all levels, not all puzzle pieces) which should be pretty cool if it appears in a marathon at some point. He let them come up and have the numchuck during the rocket barrel parts of the speedrun. Seen above is him at SGDQ with his kids/significant other on the couch. Make no mistake, with the possible exception of Conker and Star Fox Adventures, all the games we love are staples in the speedrunning communities. However there's one group of people who play DKU games every day of their lives live on the internet that collectively we pay next to no attention to. About being one of the last bastions of Donkey Kong Country, about giving Banjo the respect he deserves, about being there for anyone still obsessing over Conker or It's Mr Pants.
